Preparing for the conference

This is a whole new experience for me.  I am preparing for a conference;

That I can drive less than an hour to.
That is occurring in the city I call home
That will be located on the very streets and avenues I patrolled for 23 years of my life.

Vegas Baby
Vegas

I have been a member of the IAWP since 1996 and have not missed a conference.  Every year I packed my bags and headed to an exciting new location to meet up with my international friends and receive excellent police training.  This year many are coming my way :)

So it is my honor and a true pleasure to share some insider tips.

Vegas can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of your interest or your budget.

There are many strip show, attraction and activities to be explored by all ages.

So what is available for FREE ?

Visit the Bellagio.  There you can watch the beautifully choreographed outdoor water show at the fountains and enter inside the casino to see one of the best decorated hotel lobby in Las Vegas which leads you to the lovely design of the Bellagio"s seasonally themed flower display.

The "Las Vegas" Sign (described in an earlier blog post)

The Fremont Street Experience - located in downtown Las Vegas and featuring street performers, many interesting sights and a free over head themed show shown hourly under the canopy.

Just three today and more to come.  As you can see from my photo of the many guides offering suggestions on what to do the possibilities are endless.

If you have any specific questions about activities in Las Vegas feel free to post them here or email me ChaplainDow@yahoo.com

Vegas Lights

The Lights of the Night life

Vegas is a city of lights.

Our conference will be in Vegas at a perfect time.  The evenings are lit by the lights of the strip beaconing visitors to "Come See".  Our pleasant evening temperatures make walks along the strip inviting.

Your eyes will be exposed to mobile billboards, casino welcome boards, every shade of color you can imagine and a wide array of strip sidewalk performers.

Your fellow tourist may also be an interesting site.  People still believe "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. " and sometimes behave and or dress unconventionally.

Having patrolled the streets of Las Vegas for 23 years I can assure you what happens in Vegas can affect people all around the world.
And the sights I have seen good and bad could fill several books.

Be careful and wise as you enjoy all that Vegas has to offer.

While on your Vegas adventure you could find yourself in Egypt (at the Luxor), Paris (at the Paris) , Rome (at Ceasar's Palace), Venice (at the Venetian) even New York City (at the New York, New York).

You can be as busy as you want with the options available ; sight seeing, shopping, dining, watching casino shows and free entertainment.

Tomorrow I will share tips about the free shows around Vegas.

Sunny and warm at the Top Of The World

Las Vegas is sunny and warm this time of year enjoying nice windy days that make it perfect for exploring all our sights.

Located in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas, The Stratosphere tower is my featured attraction today.

The Stratosphere offers a breathtaking  panoramic view of the Vegas Valley.

It's a destination in and of itself.  It stands over 113 floors above the Vegas Valley towering  1,149 feet into the sky and it is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States.  An elevator ride to the top is achieved in less than a minute.

It also has the world’s highest thrill rides and the tallest controlled free fall in the world called "SkyJump Las Vegas".

Relax and enjoy a beverage while viewing the strip from The Top of the World, a restaurant that rotates 360 degrees as you dine.

This is one of my favorite places to take friends when they visit Vegas.

You will find great money saving offers from the Stratosphere in your delegate bag when you join us for our conference here in Las Vegas.

See you soon.

A Conference in Paradise

Surviving and thriving : training in Paradise

Very soon ( March 24 and 25, 2014) we will be welcoming delegates to Las Vegas, Nevada for our first regional conference located in Nevada.

This conference is a joint venture with Region  9 and Region 10 and myself the IAWP Chaplain.

We are very excited at the lineup of speakers and the activities that surround our conference.

There's so much to see and so much to do in Las Vegas.

In the next few days I will show you many fun things to do after  your conference day here in the valley.

The first and most popular thing to do when people visit Las Vegas is to go to the famous "Las Vegas" sign. The "Las Vegas"  sign is internationally recognized. The "Las Vegas" sign is located in paradise. That's right I said paradise. Las Vegas is located in paradise.

At the time you are standing in front of the "Las Vegas" sign you are in an area of Las Vegas called Paradise. If you were to put yourself out there on your Facebook page your location will show you are in "Paradise".

I look forward to welcoming you to paradise when you come to enjoy our conference.

There's still time to sign up for the conference.  The featured speakers are the best in the business.

We look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas.

Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day

Events are being held around the world to recognize the accomplishments of women and the challenges they've overcome.

I am very excited to be two weeks away from welcoming the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees of the International Association of Women Police to Las Vegas.

The BOD meeting will be followed by a regional conference where it's my honor to be a part of the planning committee and a speaker presenting on human trafficking.

Human trafficking (HT) is modern-day slavery. It is shocking that slavery still exists worldwide. It is very important to increase the awareness of the types and the activities that are involved in human trafficking.

If you are unable to be at the full conference, plan to attend the first day where a 4 hour HT segment will start off our instruction day.

The session will help you recognize the Best Practices to deal with the many issues encompassed in Human Trafficking.

I am hoping to see you in Vegas March 24 and 25, 2014.

Make the most of this International Day dedicated to "The Woman".
