Happy Easter and Passover

During this Holy season I have been really blessed to meet many new and current IAWP members as I have traveled through Europe after the March 18- 20, 2013 Region 13 Conference held in Lower-Saxony (Hannover) Germany.

I sepnt a few days in Hannover visiting local sites and getting to know local police members.  I will dedicate an entire blog to that visit.  I followed up with a trip to Munich where I visted many local sights to include churches.  The impact of religious observance in Germany is fascinating.  Protestants and Catholics are the dominant religions observed.

Exploring their houses of worship was educational.

This past week leading up to today is refered to as Passion Week.  It is the week used to symbolize the last days of Jesus Christ on this earth.  Palm Sunday begins his ministry with a welcoming procession. Each following day of the week has significance with Good Friday actually be a celebrated holiday (day off) in Ireland.  No alcohol can be bought or sold on this day.  It is taken as seriously as Chritsmas.

The practice on Good Friday is to walk the stations of the cross which are generally posted (or depicted) in local churches.  The stations (or sometimes called the way of the cross) cover Jesus Christ path from being condemned to death to his burial.

Easter Sunday (also called Resurrection Day) is in honor of the belief Christ rose from the dead and the the grave could not keep him from changing lives even until this day.

Millions celebrate Easter worldwide.

I pray however you celebrate that you are spending it with family and friends enjoying fellowship and fun.

I will be visiting two different churches in London.  I enjoy discovering diversity in forms and ways of worship when I travel.

Stay safe.

International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day

It was my honor to work with my friend Charmaine Lee in coordinating the Las Vegas portion of International Women's Day.  We held the "Courageous Women Clothing Drive" in the Las Vegas/Henderson area.  The drive was to benefit local Domestic Violence (DV) Shelters.  These shelters take in women and children (and special ones house male victims of DV) that seek refugee from violent and abusive homes.

People displaced by DV often leave without anything simply the clothes on their backs.  We collected clothing, underwear and socks for women, men and children along with toiletries (toothpaste, deorderant, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, etc)

The drive was held at four locations throughout Henderson and Las Vegas, Nevada.  It was our contribution to aiding in Empowering women as part of International Women's Day.  Hundreds of pounds of items were collected and donated to local shelters.

The community support and involvement was tremendous. The drive helped to increase awareness about Domestic Violence and the fact that "there is help" in the way of shelters and counseling to help victims of DV become whole and to become strong victors over their situations.

Three DV survivors told their story during our official kick off ceremony which took place at Adapt Insurance (one of the host locations).  Charmaine Lee, Tish Mezell, and Richelle Shelter shared their unique stories of violence and abuse then shared their escape to wholeness stories.  It is so important that victim hear from people who have successfully and safely gotten out of potentially life threatening situations.

It was humbling to be a part of this International Women's Day event.  I pray many lives will be affected by the knowledge shared as part of this educational event.  A video of the presentation by the speakers will soon be available.  If you are interested in viewing it please let me know.

Have a great weekend.  Stay Safe.
