Seven Days Into the New Year

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending"
Maria Robinson

Happy Tuesday!

We are one week into 2013 and I am curious how many people wrote down new goals of things they want to accomplish in 2013.

January is a great month to set goals and to start on a new path to accomplish them.

It is said it takes 21 days to establish a habit.  Once a habit is establish it becomes ingrained and automatic and if it a positive one it can help you achieve your goals for 2013 (and for life).

So let's say your goal for 2013 is to eat a healthy diet.

Each day either at the beginning or the end of the day you would write "Today I am going to eat healthy." or "today I made healthy food choices".  It may entail you actually writing out what you propose to eat or what you ate.

I ate a banana and yogurt for breakfast with coffee.  I had a salad and fish for lunch.  I had an orange for a snack.  I had chicken and brocolli for dinner with strawberries as dessert.  (this is an actual healthy eating day for me except the fish for lunch I usually double up on grilled or baked chicken).

If I eat something outside of these basic healthy choices I do not just decide to stop eating healthy.  I write it down.  I accept I am human and prepare myself to do better the next day.  Healthy choices as opposed to perfection will aid me in accomplishing my year end goal.  Persistence is important.  Do not give up.  Do not get discouraged.

I share this with you because I want to let you know it's never too late to start or re-start working towards your 2013 (or life ) goals.

So join me.  Feel free to share your 2013 journey with me via email ChaplainDow@yahoo.com or via Facebook at Chaplain Dow.  Let's walk this success journey together.

Put Good things in a jar

One of my friends forwarded a very cool challenge to me.  She challenged me to get an empty jar and from the beginning of the year begin to fill it with good things that happened throughout the year.  Each night sit down and reflect on your day.  Think of one good thing that happened that day.

If you arrived safely to work while driving in the rain or in a traffic jam.  Write it down.  Put it on a small piece of paper.  It could be something like "I walked (for exercise) every day for a week." and write the week. " I spent time with my friend ______ ."  "I made healthy food choices all day today."  "I had a good day at the beach", "I enjoyed fishing today" .

These are all triumphs.  When you fulfill things you have challenges yourself to do to make your life better, healthier and hopefully longer you should remember and recognize it.

These notes will act as reminders at the end of the year of all the good things that happened during the year.

Enjoy this challenge.  It will definitely have you "Focusing On The Good"

Happy Birthday 2013

Welcome to 2013

Today we begin the next year of our life. January 1, 2013 birthed a new year.  We often see an iconic baby dressed in a diaper bearing the numbers of the new year to come.  Well guess what?  It's here !

The calendar says all clear, mark me up, plan your year.

The first day of the year beginning on a Tuesday is cool because of all the days of creation listed in the Bible this is the only day that is twice called "Good". ( I am aware not everyone has read and/or believe everything in the Bible yet this is one of the many books I read in Ministry School )

So what better day to begin on than a day that was twice declared " Good".

I hope everyone had a safe New Year's Eve celebration and was able to spend some of the day with family, friends and colleagues (for those working the celebratory events and patroling the streets).

On this New Day in this New Year which has been declared "Good"  I pray you will have a very fruitful year blessed with many enlightening encounters that enhance your life and the lives of those you influence.

I would like to encourage you to reflect on last year and decide how you are going to live life (differently or the same) this year.  Look at what worked for you and look at what did not.

Decide how you want your life to look in 2013.  Where would you like to see yourself in December 2013?  How are you going to get there?  What do you need to put into place to get there? Then come back to my blog over the next few days as we map out a plan to accomplish our goals in 2013.

Have a great New Year's Day!
