2012 Day Two - Count Your Blessings

We began 2012 on a Sunday often called and believed to be the first day of the week for most. Monday is the day we return to work. Sunday is to be a day for worship, family, friends and reflection. On Sunday you look at the previous week and account for what you have done and look forward planning for what needs to be done in the coming week. What a perfect way to start the New Year, starting the New Year on a Sunday, day one of the week, a fresh slate and a new beginning.

I hope you spent yesterday in worship of your higher power and seeking guidance and direction for the new year. During the day I hope you spent time with family or friends or both and that you all shared what you were thankful for and looking forward to in the new year.

I love to hear and read on Facebook how other IAWP members spent their holidays and New Year Eve/Day. As your chaplain I started 2012 praying for the members of the IAWP and the women and men of law enforcement around the world.

Many members of my church and our Law Enforcement Prayer team gathered to bring in the new year in with prayer and worship. Thankful that we are here to see another year and optimistic for what 2012 will be.

The opportunities for 2012 are endless. The sky is the limit. Think about it, what would you do if you had no limits and could do ANYTHING? Seriously, what would you do?

Now I ask, why haven’t you started? Life is limitless. You can achieve the things of your dreams. You have to believe it.

I challenge you today to write down your successes of 2011. Write them out. It is important to remember. These accomplishment serve to show you, you can do anything you put your mind and heart into.

Write down the blessings you received in 2011. The unexpected gifts, visits from friends, job opportunities, great assignments, retirements, milestone birthdays, and good health reports after a scare. Write them down to encourage yourself. Often times we only reflect on what we DO NOT HAVE as opposed to what we do have. How we have been blessed.

Please look at what you have and make the most of it. Build on your strengths. Use your blessings to bless others. The more you give away the more you will receive.

Zig Ziglar said it best, “"You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want."

Make 2012 you best year.
