Women Leaders in Law Enforcement 2009

November 2-4, 2009 Retired Lt. Lynette Hogue, Investigator Robin Matthews (Region 10 Coordinator) Senior Deputy Fabian Brown and I manned the IAWP booth at the 4th Annual Women Leaders in Law Enforcement Training Symposium held in Northern California. This years motto was "Together : Service with Fortitude". What an inspirational Conference. It was my honor to hear the stories of the Resilient Women Leaders in Law Enforcement that walk among us. This year has been a good year for the profile of Women Law Enforcement Officers. I need only say, Ft. Hood, Seattle PD, and Jaycee Dugard.

UC Berkeley Officer Alison "Ally" Jacob one of the officers recognized as finding Jaycee Dugard after 18 years of captivity was in attendance for opening ceremonies. UC Police Manager Lisa Campbell was unable to attend. Lisa is recognized as the other law enforcement officer pivotal in the discovery of Jaycee and her children.

Officer Britt Sweeney mentioned in my previous post and Sgt Kimberley Munley, who will be mentioned in my next posting are awesome women police warriors recently highlighted in the news.

The more positive images of women in law enforcement that are featured in the media, the more young women will look to law enforcement as a viable career choice. We have to look to the future of law enforcement and mentor the young ladies that are going to take our places when we retire.

The Resilient Leader was highlighted at the WLLE conference. Resiliency. Never say die. Never stop fighting. Never stay down. Get up. Recover. Win. Be the Heroine in your own life story. You write your life story. Do not let anyone else. The person you have to answer to is yourself. As Zig Ziglar teaches, "We are all self-employed" eventhough we have an employer we make the decision how to serve that employer. We can be half hearted or whole heart. We decide our attitude and the outcome of all chapters of our lives.
